November News

We have been very lucky to have had some great opportunities for orienteering in the past few weeks: at last the Leinster Championships happened, hosted by Fingal Orienteers at Carnawaddy on the Cooley Peninsula on October 3rd, followed by the Northern Ireland Championships at the Cavan Burren on October 16th, then the Connacht Championships at Woodlawn, Co. Galway on October 24th and the Munster Championships at Glenabo, Fermoy on November 7th. We’ve also been lucky with some great league events in good forests with good maps and courses, and wonderful orienteering weather – Cushbawn,  Oughaval and Trooperstown looking their best in autumn colours.

Congratulations to the 3ROC prizewinners at the four Championships:

Leinster Championships Odhran Counihan (2nd M10), Trina Cleary (2nd W75), Con Carroll (1st M85), Karen Convery (1st W45)

Connacht Championships Valdas Tilunas (1st M21E), John McCullough (2nd M65), Nora Lee (1st W21N), Inga Lisauskiene (1st W45) Áine Ní Shúilleabháin (2nd W70)

Northern Ireland Championships Aidan McCullough (1st M20E), Valdas Tilunas (3rd M21E), John Riordan (3rd M55), John McCullough (1st M65).

Events: We still have some great orienteering to come – Ajax’s league event on November 28th on the Featherbeds uses the many old turf banks in the area – a different challenge to our usual areas. Start times are 11.00 to 12.30 and entries are online only at the Orienteering Ireland fixtures page here. The following Sunday, CNOC stage their now-traditional event at the Curragh. Fingal have an urban event in Trim, Co. Meath on December 12th.

The Enniscorthy urban event planned for November 28th is being postponed, probably until 2nd January.
3ROC events over the next while are the Christmas Score event at Cruagh Wood in the Pine Forest, Rathfarnham, on St Stephen’s Day; a Dublin-by-Night event in the Phoenix Park on Saturday January 8th and another night-O in St Pat’s College in Drumcondra later in January. We are still waiting for final permission from landowners for these events but we expect them to go ahead as planned.
Annual subscriptions are now open for 2022: just go online to the Fabian 4 website. To renew an existing membership, please use this link. For a new member joining 3ROC for the first time, please use this link.
In the meantime, see you in the forest!
