3ROC News 14th September 2016

Welcome back to the real orienteering season, starting this Sunday (18th September) with our Leinster League event at the Pine Forest. Ger Butler is planning the six courses so there will be something for everyone.

Start times are from 11 am to 1 pm and parking is at the Cruagh car park, not the Tibradden one with the zip wire. The start is 10 minutes walk from parking.

Parking may be tight so try to share cars where possible; overflow parking will be on the road so park with care and watch out for traffic.

The usual colour courses will be available:
Yellow 1.5km 45m climb
Orange 2.2km 115m
Light Green 3.4km 150m
Red 4km 225m
Green 4.5km 240m
Blue 6.2km 290m
Brown 8.4km 415m

Yellow, Orange suitable for children and beginners
Red for fitter runners with easy navigation
Light Green medium length and medium navigation
Green, Blue technically more challenging navigation
Brown long and difficult.

The map will be 1:10000 scale, 5 metre contours, A4 size. Unfortunately our usual printers have run out of waterproof paper so currently it looks like the maps will be in plastic bags. We’re trying to get more waterproof paper but it may not arrive in time for Sunday … fingers crossed!

Well done to our members on some great runs recently: M16 Cian May  had a stormer at the Northern Ireland Championships in very challenging conditions at Rostrevor and fellow M16 Aidan McCullough had three very good results in the three London City  races last weekend, finishing only seconds away from the podium. We have three runners selected for the Senior Home International in Anglesey in October – Colm Moran and Eoin and Clíona McCullough, joining Juniors Clodagh Moran, Aidan McCullough and Eoin Riordan and Veteran John McCullough in the Home International teams this year.

Planning ahead, you might be interested in LVO’s Lisburn City race on Saturday 24th September, and you can run in the forested dunes of Newborough on Anglesey, with the SHI team on 22nd/23rd October – enter at Fabian4.co.uk.
