3ROC News 8th December 2015

Munster here we come! Cork Orienteers and Defence Forces Orienteers join forces this Sunday to host the Munster Championships at Kilworth, Co. Cork. A dozen 3Rockers travel south for Sunday’s event, where a cake sale is being run to help fund the Junior Squad. Courses range from 2.7 km M/W10 to 11.2 km M21L, but it’s fairly flat with maximum climb “only” 185 metres on the 9.8 km M35/40 course.

Some of the 3Rock contingent will be sporting our new Siven O-suits, as we just got a delivery of the new gear. O-tops arre only €20 for adults, €10 for Juniors.

Remember to renew your membership for 2016 and collect your membership card and your special 3ROC pen! The membership form is on the “Join 3ROC” page.

Thanks to last weekend’s helpers from the club at the Junior training event in the Pine Forest: controller John Riordan, mapper Ger Butler and standing-in-a-hole-in-the-forest John McCullough.  The 4.5 km middle distance course planned by David Healy only attracted about 10 runners after the Juniors had run, but they all enjoyed the experience even if some of the later starters took the precaution of bringing headlights with them! Considering the rain and wind it was surprising that as many as 10 turned up but, apart from the noise of the wind, conditions were not bad.

Some good results at the GEN Leinster League event at Trooperstown on Sunday too:  Rhona McGrath 1st on the Red course; Eoin Riordan 2nd on the special Juniors long course, Brendan McGrath 4th on Green.

Preparations for our 2016 Leinster Championships at Carrick Mountain are progressing: you can follow the action  here.

Fitness training at Belfield on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Our next event is the Christmas Score event at Three Rock Wood, Ticknock, Dundrum, on St Stephen’s Day December 26th: note start times 10.30 to 12.00.
