Kilkenny Orienteering Sunday 18th November

The next Leinster event is  Fingal’s Autumn Series in Castlemorris, Co. Kilkenny on Sunday. Start times 11 to 1 pm. See details below.

Castlemorris Forest is a Coillte forest located near Knocktopher, Co.
Kilkenny. It’s a new map and this will be the first event held in this
area. The terrain is mainly forested with a network of paths but the
longer courses will venture into a part of the forest with some rock
features.

There will be six courses on offer; the standard yellow, orange, light
green, green, blue and brown. Course details are below.

Yellow 2.5k, 50m climb, 9 controls
Orange 3.3k, 60m, 9 controls
Light Green: 3.4k, 70m, 9 controls
Green: 4.8k, 85m climb, 14 controls
Blue: 6.6k, 185m climb, 20 controls
Brown: 9.8k, 260m climb, 23 controls

Planner: Val Jones (Fingal)
Controller: Andrew Cox (WatO)

All maps will be printed on A4 waterproof paper. All maps bar Brown are at
a scale of 1:10000. Brown is at a scale of 1:15000. The map is orientated
to grid north and the magnetic north lines are angled at the magnetic north
offset. We will be using SI controls and equipment.

Getting There:
Castlemorris is best accessed from Exit 10 (Signposted
Knocktopher/Ballyhale) on the M9.

If coming from the north, take the slip-road at Exit 10. It will bring you
to a roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout, passing underneath the
motorway where you will reach another roundabout. Go straight ahead at
this roundabout onto the R699. Continue on this road until you reach a
fork. Bear left at the fork, onto the R701. Continue on this road,
passing through the village of Newmarket. Shortly after Newmarket turn
right, signposted Kilmoganny. Immediately after this turn take the minor
road to the left. Follow this road until it forks and then bear right.
The entrance to the forest is down this road on the right-hand side.

Parking will be inside the forest on the forest road itself. Parking is
limited, so we would ask orienteers to car pool where possible and to
follow the instructions of marshals when parking. The forest entrance that
we are using is NOT the main entrance so if you arrive there please
relocate! The main entrance is on the R701.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday,
