This week: June 8-17

I know that’s more than a week!  The penultimate CNOC Tuesday evening event is at the eastern part of the Curragh on Tuesday, from 6 to 7.30, with three courses available. The 8 km long course has a map exchange after 5 km.  See details here.

The final event in the series is on Tuesday 17th at Hollywood, Co. Wicklow, with the usual barbecue (can it really be a year since the last one?)

Well done to Andrew Quin, now based in Sweden, on his second place in Sunday’s mountain race from Glenmalure to Lugnaquilla via the Fraughan Rock Glen, in testing windy, wet and jungly conditions.

Meanwhile some of the club’s juniors were training with “sprintervals” at DCU in Glasnevin.

This Wednesday’s IMRA race is at Sorrel Hill near Blessington/Lackan/Ballyknockan. See here.

The usual free 5 km  Saturday Parkruns are on at 09.30 in several orienteering areas: Marlay Park, Tymon Park, Griffeen Park, Malahide Castle, Ardgillan. Read the latest Parkrun newsletter here.

Fitness training on Monday and Thursday evenings (6.30 pm) at Belfield.

John and Eoin McCullough will join up next weekend with UK-based Ronan and Julie Cleary and other LOK members on another trip to the famous Jukola relay in Finland, which starts at around 11 pm on Saturday night (9 pm Irish time).  Eoin is double-jobbing, running an early leg on a DUO team and then the final leg on the LOK team. You can follow the Jukola action live in the internet or on Finish TV via the Jukola web site here. They expect about 16,000 competitors and 30,000 spectators, so it’s a bit bigger than your local night event!

The following weekend’s LVO Festival of O in Co. Down details have been announced on the NIOA web site here: Newcastle urban race on Friday evening, orienteering at Tollymore Forest on Saturday,  Pre-O (or trail-O) and Junior Training on Saturday afternoon, the NIOA AGM (optional!), a BBQ on Saturday evening and a sprint relay on Sunday morning. Details here. You can pre-enter and pre-book a camping space at Tollymore.

Details have also been announced for the 2014 Veteran Home International in the Forest of Dean on September 13-14: see here. VHI Team manger Helen Baxter is looking for expressions of interest. Contact her at hbbaxter@btinternet.com

That’s all for now!
