This week’s news: June 2nd

Well done to the 3ROC class winners at the Irish 3-Day in Co. Galway this weekend: Oisín May (M10), Caoimhe May (W12), Cian May (M14), Kevin Cunningham (M16), Mary O’Connell (W50), John McCullough (M60), Trina Cleary (W70) and Frank Martindale (M75) – after three days of challenging navigation and running among the bogs, boulders and voracious midges of Oughterard. Thanks again to WEGO for running the event with only a handful of helpers.

No local orienteering until June 10th at the Curragh, where the second last Tuesday evening event run by CNOC takes place. There will be weekday evening events right through the summer, though, including three 3ROC events in the Phoenix Park in August.

On the international front, the two 3ROC hopefuls for the 2014 World Championships team were not among the winners of the selection races in Italy this weekend. Colm Moran  and Ger Butler ran the sprint, middle and classic races.  Conor Short was selected for the middle distance and Nick Simonin was selected for the Sprint and Classic races. More runners will be selected for the sprint and Relay closer to WOC.

Running continues on Monday and Thursday evenings at UCD, Belfield at 6.30; IMRA hill races at Carrick Mountain, Glenealy (one of 3ROC’s orienteering areas) this Wednesday – see details here.

Parkruns continue on Saturday at 09.30. See details here.

Look out for the LVO Tollymore O-Festival on the weekend of June 20-22: you can turn up to camp at the beautiful Tollymore forest park near Newcastle, Co. Down, from Thursday 19th. See details of the weekend here.

Don’t forget the 17th Setanta Rogaine in Co. Wicklow the following weekend: details here.
