3ROC News 17th March 2015

Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!

We’re back to the Bull Island on Sunday 22nd for Ajax’s Leinster League event: see details here. It’s a great area to which we only have occasional access, so be sure to come along to the event. For Dublin dwellers it couldn’t be more convenient (even for southsiders!).

Last Sunday’s local event at Hellfire Woods drew a big crowd and there were some good 3ROC results: Gerry Cunningham 3rd on the Long course; John McCullough and Clodagh Moran 1st and 2nd on the Medium and Cuan Riordan 2nd on the Short course.  The event was run by Setanta who generously donated the proceeds to Our Lady’s Hospice in memory of their long-time mamber Brian Power.

3ROC were out the day before too, where there was an IMRA hill race at the Hellfire Club, won outright by our M16 Cian May. – a great run from Cian who includes running, cycling and orienteering in his sports portfolio.

The Hellfire event also saw the first outing for our new 3ROC O-tops, available for the subsidised price of only €20 for adults and €10 for children: we have a stock of them so now’s your chance to try one for size. We’ll have them at the Pine Forest on the 29th.

We have nearly 20 people travelling to the Jan Kjellstrom O-Festival at Easter, from M12 Cuan Riordan up to M80 Frank Martindale: a full spectrum of orienteering experience! The Lake District is great for orienteering, with natural forest and lots of squiggly contours –  something for everyone, from the Sprint at Lancaster University to the Long,  Middle Distance and Relay races in “real” forests.

Volunteers are needed for our League event at the Pine Forest on Sunday 29th March: e-mail 3rockoc@gmail.com if we haven’t asked you personally.

Training continues at Belfield on Monday and Thursday evenings; Parkruns at Marlay and elsewhere at 09.30 on Saturdays; annual subscriptions are now due.

Good luck to the 3Rock runners in the Wicklow Way Trail race and the Colleges Mountain Running Championships at Camaderry, both on Saturday 21st.  There’s a trail race in Mullaghmeen the same day. For details of IMRA events see here. The Wednesday evening races start on April 15th.

That’s all for this week.
