3ROC News 24th August 2016

Well, the real orienteering season is about to start and our three evening events in the Phoenix Park are over for another year: we had smaller numbers than in recent years, with a maximum of about 80, but there were a number of newcomers to orienteering, which is what these events are meant to encourage. results of the last event are here.

Fingal’s “scatter” events start this Sunday (28th) at Tyrrellstown, a unique housing estate near Blanchardstown and a great introduction to sprint or urban orienteering. There’s a mass start at 12.00 so you have to be on time! The following weekend the Northern Ireland Championships are on  Saturday 3rd September at Rostrevor, Co. Down. You can still enter at www.fabian4.co.uk until Sunday 28th August. It’s a good area of open mountain and forest and it incorporates the Veteran Home International between Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. It’s also the last selection race for the Junior Home International team for the JHI in October.

On Sunday 4th, the second Fingal event is on at Malahide Castle, and on the 11th at DCU/Albert College Park, Glasnevin. The London City race is on Saturday 10th September and some 3ROC runners will be going over to that.

The first Leinster Legue event is the 3ROC one at Pine Forest, Rathfarnham, on Sunday 18th September.

Meanwhile, you can follow the action at the World Championships in Sweden at woc2016.se but, more interestingly, follow the events at WorldofO.com where there is great analysis of the winners’ and losers’ routes.

That’s all for now!
