3ROC News August 2016

Welcome back to everyone after the “summer”! Our three evening events in the Phoenix Park are currently underway: the Papal Cross and Magazine Fort have been held and it’s on to the Furry Glen (inside the Knockmaroon Gate above Chapelizod) for the final event on Tuesday 23rd August. Start times 6.30 to 7.30; registration from 6 pm and courses close 8.30 pm. The results of the first two events are here. By the way, you can now visit the Magazine Fort on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: see the 3ROC Facebook page for details.

Our next event after these is the Leinster League competition at the Pine Forest, Rathfarnham, on 18th September.

Before that, though, remember that the Northern Ireland Championships are on the unusually early date of Saturday 3rd September at Cassy Water, Rostrevor, Co. Down. This is only an hour from Dublin Airport so it’s very accessible. LVO are hosting the event and it will include the Veteran Home International (Ireland v England v Scotland v Wales for the M/W35 to 65 age classes). You can enter the NIOC on the Fabian 4 web site here. Entries close on 28th August. See the event web site here. NIOC is also the final selection event for juniors aiming for the Junior Home International in the Newcastle on Tyne area  on October 8th/9th.

Over the summer we also had 3ROC members representing Ireland at the European Championships in the Czech Republic (Eoin McCullough and Colm Moran), the European Youth Championships in Poland (Clodagh Moran and Eoin Riordan) and the World University Championships in Hungary (Eoin and Colm again) and we also had a group at the World Masters Championships in Estonia this month. Well done everyone!

Best wishes to Gerry Cunningham, who is moving abroad for work for a few years. Gerry is a mainstay of the club, always ready to help at events, plan, control or work on mapping, as well as being our Treasurer. We’ll look forward to his return. In the meantime, Emma McAuley has taken over as Treasurer.

Now, back to planning next week’s event in the Phoenix Park …
