3ROC Weekly News 25th November

All ready for our local event at Griffeen Valley Park, Lucan, on Saturday 29th. Start times are 10.00 to 12.00 with free entry for Parkrunners after their 09.30 5 k.

Ger Butler has planned two courses, of about 2.5 km and 5.5 km. This is only the second time that Griffeen has been used for orienteering, although there are permanent courses there. This is the only orienteering in Leinster this weekend, so we hope to see you there for a run.

If you find you  enjoy orienteering in the Lucan area, make a note of our event at St Catherine’s Park on 1st March next.

There’s schools’ orienteering at St Anne’s Park, Raheny, on Wednesday, part of the Secondary Schools series.

The following weekend, December 6/7, there’s a Junior Training Weekend in Leinster for the Irish Juniors.  Nick Simonin will be coming to coach and instruct the juniors and they’ll al be at the League event in the Curragh on Sunday 7th.  If you don’t want to shop at Kildare Village on Sunday you can snap up some O-bargains as there’ll be a sale of unwanted O-gear to raise money for the Juniors: O-shoes, T-shirts, O-suits etc. You can donate your old stuff and buy more.

We had four people at the Computers in Orienteering workshop last Saturday in Portlaoise: Emma McAuley, Lindie Naughton, John McCullough & Eoin McCullough (really representing DUO) were there. There were sessions on mapping software, SportIdent, Martin Flynn’s great “Ór” event software, mapping from space, and promoting orienteering – a very worthwhile and thought-provoking day.

No results up yet (Tuesday evening) from Fingal’s League event at Virginia last Sunmday so no comments on 3ROC performances. Wednesday update – well done Cuan Riordan (M12) for coming first on both the Yellow and Light Green courses! See results here.

Fitness training continues at Belfield on Monday and Thursday; new O-suits have been ordered;  get your headlights ready for the Night-O season, kicking off with our event in Phoenix Park on Saturday January 10th.

See you all at Griffeen on Saturday …
