August/September News

The last of our three 3ROC summer Tuesday evening events in the Phoenix Park is on Tuesday 19th August at the Magazine Fort, just inside the Islandbridge gate. Two courses again, about 2 km and 4.5 km. Start times 6 to 7 pm so we can get everyone back and the controls in before dark. You may be eligible for a free “Dublin Summer Series” technical T-shirt if you will have completed four of the seven events.

Other events coming up are Fingal’s scatter series on Sundays in September; four mountain bike orienteering events on Saturdays in September, and the first Leinster League event on Three Rock on 28th September. The Leinster League this year will run right through the season and will include a new “Red” course which will be aimed at fitter people but with a lower level of technical difficulty than the green, blue and brown courses. We’re also running an MTBO event on Three Rock the day before, Saturday 27th. We need volunteers to help at these events. See fixtures at orienteering.ie here.

Also coming up is the Junior Home International at Oban in Scotland on 30/31 August with two 3ROC runners on the team- W14 Clodagh Moran and M14 Aidan McCullough: Congratulations on your selection for the Irish team!

Also in September is the Veteran Home International in the Forest of Dean in Wales, again with several 3ROC runners on the team- more details later. Some club members are travelling to the seventh  London City race on September 21st – it’s a great event and actually quite accessible. See here for details. There’s also a city race in Brussels the same day and the organisers are hoping that some will run Brussels, then take the Eurostar train and run the London race! It’s possible to do.

The Northern Ireland Championships are on Saturday 4th October at Castle Saunderson Demesne in Co. Cavan. See details and entry here.

SI cards: we have some SportIdent cards available for 3ROC members to buy at the subsidised price of €20. Contact Gerry Cunningham for details.

Remember to keep an eye on the 3ROC Facebook page here for the latest information – and you don’t need a Facebook account to visit the page.

See you in the forest.
