The night orienteering season has started, with the first event a recent addition to the fixtures list on 7th January at St Anne’s Park. Our next event is the Phoenix Park on Saturday 14th and we have another at DCU St Patrick’s College, on the 28th. These are great events but you will need a headlight! Two courses each night but under-16’s will need to be accompanied by an adult. They are probably not suitable for beginners although some of them are in pretty easy areas.

The full event details are on the event pages in the fixtures list here but here are the dates and locations, all on Saturdays. Pre-entry is recommended and in some cases it is required.

Spring events

There are some big events coming up that you should put in your diaries: the Leinster Championships will be at Camaderry, near the Wicklow Gap on 16th April; the Irish Championships will be in Dublin and Wicklow from April 28th to May 1st; the British Sprint and Middle Distance Championships wll be in Northern Ireland the weekend after the Irish Championships with additional events in the intervening week. The Jan Kjellstrom O-festival will be in the English Lake District at Easter (April 7-10) in some of the best terrain in Britain.

Leinster League events restart on January 15th at Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny – an interesting mixed area of forest and old sandpits. The next 3ROC League event will be on 2nd April.

See you in the forest!
