STEPHEN’S DAY FANCY DRESS SCORE ORIENTEERING

3ROC STEPHEN’S DAY FANCY DRESS SCORE ORIENTEERING

Whether you have been naughty or nice this year, 3ROC will still have a surprise for you at the annual Score orienteering event on Ticknock on Stephen’s Day and beginners or “long lost” orienteers will be especially welcome.

There will be almost 30 controls scattered across the forest and the mountain. The further or more difficult controls will have the highest scores and there will be  ten points per minute penalty for anyone who exceeds the allocated time which will be 60 minutes on the long course and 40 minutes on the short course. Those in fancy dress can hope to score a bonus 50 points right at the start but this will be subject to the decision of our celebrity judge.

Seasonal refreshments will be available while we also some high visibility reflective gear for participants from the Road Safety Authority – because orienteers are “bright” people (sorry!!). Finally we hope to adjourn to Lamb Doyle’s to catch up with friends – old and new – where even more spot prizes will be on offer.

Start Times: 10:00am to 12:00am. Courses close at 13:00 sharp at which time controls will be promptly removed. SI system will be used and all competitors must return to the finish to download their result and to avoid an unnecessary search. Please note the earlier start and course closing times due to the large number of other visitors in the afternoon.

Directions: The event will be signposted from the junction of the Ticknock Road with the Harold’s Grange / Blackglen Road (just beside the M50 flyover bridge). A one way road system operates in an anti-clockwise direction on Ticknock. Registration will take place near the upper forest barrier and please note that despite traffic congestion before the barrier there are usually ample parking spaces available by following the one way system around past the barrier. Grid Ref O 171 240

Map is 1:10,000 with 5m contours and will be supplied in plastic bags. Separate control descriptions will be available at registration.

Entry Fee: Discounted fee of €5 for all adults and €3 for juniors.

And don’t forget for the New Year we will have a Night-O event in the Phoenix park on the 4th January.
