This week’s orienteering: November 4-9

First, if you’re going to the LVO Tyrella event in Co. Down on Saturday next you need to give your details fo the organisers by Tuesday 4th as the area is at an army base and they need to clear everyone for security. Over-16’s will also need photo i.d. See details here.

Second, the cheap entry date for the Connacht Championships has passed but you can still enter up until Friday 7th November. The event is on a new sand dune area at Strandhill in Co. Sligo on Sunday 16th November.  See details here.

Third, well done to our three prizewinners at Sunday’s Munster Championships at Muckross, Killarney:  Mary O’Connell (1st W50), John McCullough (1st M60) and Clíona McCullough (2nd W21L). Well done also to the winners of the 21L classes, Darren Burke (again!) and Róisín Long. The courses included the fantastic, steep and almost natural forest above the lake and the fast, flatter forest and parkland around Muckross House for the final part. Thanks and well done to Kerry Orienteers, a very small group who managed to run the event for us.  See the results here.

This weekend we have the LVO event including the Intervarsity Championships at Tyralla, Co. Down on Saturday, and the Ajax Leinster League event at Carraig na Seabhac, on the Military Road between the Sally Gap and Glenmacnass, on Sunday. This area is not to everyone’s taste as it is physical terrain with bog, heather and young trees, and definitely not buggy-friendly, but it’s certainly challenging, even if the conditions aren’t soing to be as bad as at the Leinster Championships when they were there.

If this doesn’t appeal to you, Queens University are staging a sprint event on Sunday in Belfast and everyone is invited see details here.

For primary school pupils, the second event in the Leinster Series is on Wednesday 5th at St Anne’s Park, Raheny.

Fitness training continues at Belfield on Monday and Thursday evenings at 6.30; orienteering gym circuits in Stillorgan on Wednesday evening with all the O-clubs.

New O-suits are on the way so contact Lindie to order and get details.

Our next event is coming up on Saturday 29th November at Griffeen Park in Lucan.  We’ll need helpers to try to grab as many Parkrunners as we can after their 09.30 5K run.
